The film that changed everything.

For years, Maleena Pone told other people's stories. Then she turned the camera on herself - making a deeply personal documentary about her mother, her identity, and what it means to be the one who holds the family together. Saving Mum previewed at BAFTA, aired on Channel 4 in December 2025, was seen by millions and won an RTS award. It also became the proof of concept for everything StoryTell-Her Studios now offers.

"Saving Mum wasn’t just a documentary. It became a catalyst. The social trailer amassed 1M views within its first week and opened a dialogue where there had previously been silence.

Audiences didn’t just consume the film. They felt seen by it."

Founder Story

Why she built this

A panel discussion with five women seated on stage, with some holding microphones, engaged in conversation at a BAFTA event.

"I turned the hardest chapter of my life into something that moved millions of people. Now I help other people do the same - whatever shape that takes."

I spent almost two decades helping other people tell their stories. I produced. I directed. I sat in edit suites and boardrooms and embedded into all kinds of communities, coaxing the truth out of other people's lives and I was good at it.

But something was missing. Somewhere along the way, I had stopped being a person with a story of my own and become the person who held space for everyone else's.

When I decided to turn the camera on myself — to make a documentary about my mother, our relationship, and everything we had never said out loud — I discovered something that changed how I understood this work entirely.

Telling your own story is not just a creative act. It is an act of identity.

Of reclamation. Of becoming.

Saving Mum aired on Channel 4 in December 2025. It won an RTS award. And it became the proof of concept for everything StoryTell-Her Studios now offers.

Because what I learned making that film, about emotional readiness, narrative architecture, and what it means to hold a story safely — is exactly what the people who come to me need.

Not just production. Not just coaching. But a guide who has done the hardest version of this work themselves.

That is what The Lab is built on. That is what every workshop, every film, every engagement carries inside it.

You deserve to tell your story. Let me help you become ready.

We are a creative studio run by an executive producer and certified life coach. Deep and meaningful is not a mood. It is a business model.

Most people either teach content creation, produce documentaries, or offer coaching. We sit in the space where all three meet and go further.
