My Other Tongue is a powerful and intimate feature documentary that follows a British-Asian mother-daughter duo as they embark on a transformative journey to confront generational trauma and grief. Through the sacred use of plant medicine and ancestral healing ceremonies, they are challenged to face their deepest fears and unresolved pain. In doing so, they not only reckon with the ghosts of their past but also begin the process of breaking free from cycles of intergenerational trauma. This documentary is crafted within the trauma-informed production framework established by StoryTell-Her Studios, where the focus is not only on the art but on the filmmaker’s own growth and healing process. Through a coaching and mentoring approach, we prioritise the inner work of those involved, ensuring that the journey of creation mirrors the healing themes of the film. The project’s authenticity and depth attracted DARE Pictures as co-production partner and secured executive creative producer Fatima Salaria after the release of the funding trailer, serving as a testament to the holistic development process we undertake at every stage of production and the power of personal storytelling in documentary.
